Command Master Chief David Schacher assumed the duties as Reserve Command Master Chief for the Ninth Coast Guard District on June 15, 2019. His primary responsibility is to advise the Ninth Coast Guard District Commander on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard Reserve members and their families. The Ninth District encompasses eight states, including 1,500 miles of the international border, and a workforce of more than 6,000 Coast Guard active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women. Prior to this assignment, CMC Schacher served as the Reserve Command Master Chief of Sector Lower Mississippi River in Memphis, TN.

CMC Schacher enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve through the Direct Petty Officer Program in 2000. His previous assignments include the Container Inspection Training & Assistance Team, Oklahoma City, OK; Marine Safety Office Port Arthur, TX; Coast Guard Liaison Office Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Marine Safety Office Corpus Christi, TX; Redeployment and Inspection Detachment (RAID 1), Kuwait; Marine Safety Detachment, Ft. Smith, AR; Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, TX; and the Coast Guard Institute, Oklahoma City, OK. CMC Schacher has been recalled to active duty seven times throughout his career in support of Operations NOBLE EAGLE, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM; and Hurricanes Katrina, Ike and Maria.

CMC Schacher’s awards include two Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational distinguishing device, the Army Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals with operational distinguishing device, three Army Achievement Medals, and other personal and service awards. He has earned a permanent Marine Safety Insignia, and a Command Master Chief (Gold Badge) insignia.

CMC Schacher is a graduate of the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course (SELC) and Reserve Class XXV of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy.
